At Vital Green Farms, we use only natural, organically approved, soil amendments to balance the soil. For example, manures, organic molasses, sugars, calcium, liquid fish, and other minerals.

With this in place the plants can take up the nutrients to feed the cows, which in turn make our delicious milk.

What Makes our Milk Different?
|
We, as you might think, run a dairy farm. In a sense this is true, but first and foremost we are grass farmers. A better term would be forage farmers, because cows do not eat only grass. Cows really like a mix of all different plants, which includes grasses, legumes, and herbs. Why do we than have dairy cows? The cows convert the minerals, vitamins and nutrients from the plants into milk, which in turn nourishes our body.

It's becoming Christmas!
|
|
Wow that snow came fast! But here we are seeing Christmas lights adorn the homes in our towns. There is nothing more beautiful than the silent Christmas nights, stars in the night skies, tree silhouettes with a moon shining, and all the lights of our Christmas festival season. The lights are so reminiscent of our hope in the world, of what we hold out for. So many cultures have a festival of lights, all for the same reasons as we do.

Having been to many places in BC over Christmas and in places like Panama, I can tell you that we Albertans have a very strong Christmas spirit. It is our treasure and we want to celebrate you this Christmas season!

Alberta Farm to Table Club Membership
We are gearing up for our membership registration. Very exciting! Because GFGU and more importantly, because YOU are here, there is a market emerging that becomes significant for farmers. You have to know how truly significant you are. Using your money to support farmers, really makes a difference.

In some instances we are being offered wholesale prices, but we can't offer lower prices publicly because it undermines the farmer... retail stuff, MRSP etc. but under a membership we can! And we want to pass on those savings to you, because they are really yours... you know.
|

We are pleased also to announce we have some farmers lined up who are offering products that we are going to include for our members only. We are going to have some wines, Alberta made, local and all kinds of awesome!

Reduced Delivery Fees
|
We raised the delivery prices in the fall to encourage pickup in Calgary because the gas prices were nearing $2 earlier this year. The prices have come down, that and we have decided under the membership we will offer a lower rate, so it will reflect closer to what you used to pay. It was a total of $10 between the sort fee and delivery fee and we will offer something closer to those pricings.

We were recently contacted by someone in Calgary who found us in a search. They were looking for something local to Lethbridge to send to a business as a thank you! Would we deliver they asked? Oh Yes! So it was Cookie Crimes who sells cookies! Freshly baked cookies delivered to your door... so our site is gaining traction! Great news for our farmers and producers!

Another customer new to us also found us through an internet search. What we love about this is that farmers are getting huge notice because of all the traffic we get from the many customers who buy each month, you in other words, and the farmers are going up in the search ranks...

Unless you know internet sales, you won't know how amazing that is! It is beyond hard to get traffic and there are 1000 people out there who will charge you $$$ and say they will bring you that traffic. So there you have it! See how amazing you are and how your dollars are helping our farmers and producers!

A Brother Like That

A friend of mine named Paul received a new car from his brother as a pre-Christmas present. On Christmas Eve, when Paul came out of his office, a street urchin was walking around the shiny new car, admiring it.
“Is this your car, mister?” he asked.
Paul nodded. “My brother gave it to me for Christmas.”
The boy looked astounded. “You mean your brother gave it to you, and it didn’t cost you anything? Gosh, I wish…..”
He hesitated, and Paul knew what he was going to wish. He was going to wish he had a brother like that. But what the lad said jarred Paul all the way down to his heels.
“I wish,” the boy went on, “that I could be a brother like that.”
