GRAMMA D'S PRESERVES

Honey, Pork and Jams

Forever Bee

Here’s some of the ways Forever Bee is a part of my life:
  • I love drinking coffee with Apple Pie Honey.
  • We put Bee Pollen on our cereal and yogurt A LOT.
  • There are lippy balms all over my house (thank goodness they don’t ruin a washing machine!)
  • We decorate our Christmas Tree with handmade Honeystix Ornaments.
  • I like to light a candle when I’m up late trying to be productive.
  • I get to tour our province while delivering right to your door. (This is the BEST during Halloween and Christmas! when everything’s decorated!)
… and so many more ways. Stick around this weekend while we talk about some of them!

Whispering Wind Farms

We at Whispering Wind Farms, are proud to raise one of the only true grazing breed of pig called Kunekunes. Our Kunekunes are 90% forage with just a fraction of grain that other heritage pasture pork breeds consume at only 2lbs of grain per day! The rest of their diet consists of lush pasture and in Fall/Winter dairy quality second cut alfalfa hay. The meat is dark red with marbling throughout giving it flavor, tenderness and juiciness. Due to Kunekunes majority of feed intake being forage based, their fat has a low melting point which is like nothing that we had tasted from any other swine breed, it literally melts in your mouth. Gramma D's Preserves

Here at Gramma D’s Preserves I make jams and jellies and have been doing so for over 40 years! My favorite times are when my grandchildren come over and we have toast and jam together. So I decided it was time to spread the joy and here are my jams for you and your family!

Nothing better than toast and jam that Gramma made!

New Cut Off time on Sundays

Our cut off time on Sunday is 6pm

for both orders and payment. We changed it because it gives us more time to let the farmers know which orders are a go for the upcoming week!

Arranging for Delivery

We still want to provide service and support to our community that wants fresh farm food. So what we have come up with is delivering to a single location and we are looking into developing something with organizations like Skip the Dishes so you can contact them to arrange for delivery to your home. You will need to pay the driver. Alternatively you can pay the volunteers to deliver to your home if you cannot make the pick up. We are suggesting a $25 charge.

We are estimating to be at the pick up location for 2 hours on Wednesdays between 11:30am to 1:30pm

If you cannot pick up your food at this time:
  • You will need to contact us and we will pass your food onto a volunteer.
  • You will need to pay the volunteer for their time and gas, and to make delivery arrangements.
  • You can also arrange that a friend picks up your order. Again you will need to let us know so we are not giving your groceries away to hungry people!
  • There are no refunds for orders not picked up.
For Customers who were with us before July 13th of this year, we are honouring a $10.00 delivery fee. New customers we are asking $25.00 to deliver to you. Call us if you need to discuss it. Thanks. For people who we were delivering to as they are on route, in Okotoks, De Winton and so on, these are also included in the $10.00

If there is a volunteer who will deliver your groceries to you and they negotiate a different price with you that is less than the $25, that is A-OK. Feel free to negotiate that.

If you have any suggestions or comments please contact us at Email Us
This is a community endeavour and your thoughts are super important!

Russian Pickled Tomatoes

Russian Grandma’s Pickled Tomatoes

Did you know that you can actually pickle tomatoes? In the stores we’re so used to seeing jars and jars of pickles but my Russian grandma pickled tomatoes. This goes back to the old days when canning and preserving tomatoes was a necessity.

Potatoes!!!!

How to Harvest, Cure, and Store Potatoes

The best potatoes for storage are late maturing types or a second crop sown later in the season. This is because potatoes will only last about 6 weeks post harvest when stored above 60ºF. During mid-summer root cellars, garages, and other storage areas will generally not be cold enough for them to keep long term.

No root cellar? There are a number of alternative options for storing potatoes.

#1 Storage Pit

#2 Clamp

#3 Garage

#4 Basement
